What this calculator assumes

• One constant return is applied both while you are saving and once you have retired. Real returns vary year to year and are not guaranteed.
• Figures are not adjusted for inflation, so enter a real (after-inflation) return if you want the result in today’s dollars.
• The Age Pension, other assets outside super, part-time work in retirement and a partner’s balance are all ignored — most people will need less capital than this once the Age Pension is counted.
• Employer contributions are the 12% super guarantee less 15% contributions tax, on an unchanging salary. The "extra each year" figure is the amount landing in super after contributions tax. Rates and thresholds are those current as at July 2026 (FY2026-27) and change over time.
